12 things you need to know about working with Aubia Communications

This will be one of the hardest blog posts I’ve written thus far. There is an old adage in Public Relations that practitioners are great at telling the story of others, just not so much about ourselves. However, it’s important for my clients to know who they get when they’re working with Aubia Communications. This post is dedicated to opening up and letting my readers know who is behind the keyboard. Here goes.

My About section has some basic information, but if you’re going to work with me, here is what you need to know.

1. I love Public Relations. I decided in high school that I would be in the Communications field, and I’ve never faltered from that. I can’t imagine myself doing anything completely outside this field. I’m dedicated to what I do not only for my business but the profession as a whole.

2. I offer many services and free consultations, but my favorite part is building the trusting relationships that are essential to all Public Relations work. I pride myself on being the go-to person; if I don’t know the answer, I’m able to reach out to a wide network of professionals who will.

3. I sincerely value research. I will do my background work before beginning on whatever service I’ve been contracted to do. You can’t get to where you want without knowing the why and how you need to be there. I’m not just writing a piece for the newsletter or providing you a media training session – you will know why I’m doing those things and how they will affect your bottom line.

4. I’m a stickler for schedules and To Do lists. I’m constantly planning in my head what needs work and how I will go about it. I live and die by my Outlook calendar, and I’m extremely punctual. I’m rarely late, and it’s a pet peeve of mine if I am.

5. I’m a hard worker giving it my all. I’m fanatical about great customer service, and I strive to provide the best possible. If you’re not happy with a product, I’ll do everything I can to fix the problem. Since I expect a lot of myself, I expect just as much out of those partnering with me. I’m quick to determine if your service is living up to my standards or not.

6. I have some great experience in the field, but I strongly believe you never stop learning. I’m an avid reader, and I’m constantly improving my practice by consuming blogs and professional journals about the latest advances in Public Relations. I also participate in webinars, conferences and other training sessions to stay on top of industry developments.

7. I like writing, but it’s a love-hate relationship. I never think what I’m writing is good enough, so I agonize over the smallest details. I can produce something quickly in emergency situations, but I will always get butterflies every time I hit the send/publish button.

8. I consider myself a modest and private person (another reason this is such a hard blog post to write), but I will most likely answer any question asked of me. You have the right to know almost everything if you’re hiring me to work on the business you’re passionate about. I stand by my own convictions, but I try not to enter conversations about hot button subjects, at least not on this blog. I have plans to start a travel blog soon that may address more life issues.

9. “To whom much is given, much is expected.” For those who have worked hard and had enough luck to be successful, we have the duty to mentor those coming up in the field. I enjoy nurturing young professionals and showing others the benefit of Public Relations.

10. I’m committed to advancing this profession through ethical practices. I will absolutely not do anything to jeopardize my reputation with my clients or in the industry by pursuing stunts that are not in line with the Public Relations Society of America’s Code of Ethics or my own morals.

11. I will not take on accounts with objectives that I don’t support. If I’m personally opposed to the goal, I can’t give you my best efforts. If I can’t give you my best efforts, then I’m only stifling both of us. I’m a true believer in Corporate Social Responsibility, and I will incorporate that model into my planning.

12. If I’m not the best person for the job, I have no problem referring you to another Public Relations practitioner who can better assist you. I have no desire to see someone fail, and I know lots of great Public Relations professionals with specialized expertise that may be better suited to your needs.

There it is. This is who I am and this is how I operate. Want to know something else? Ask away in the comments.
